When you see a chance, take it

So, Mother Nature heard my whines, and gave a us a couple of significant periods of clearness. Saturday morning Tiny Robot, Stef is Super, Lindsey, Angela, and I, all had a very productive yard sale, thanks to help from DM and Mary. Much of our old junk was hauled away by friendly strangers and we made a few bucks in the process.

On Sunday, D and I decided to brave our eight mile bike ride, and somewhat unintentionally I guess we were pretty "hardcore" about it--well, definitely for our usual lazy asses, anyway. We decided that if we didn't push too hard to get anywhere quickly that we could do the round trip, and we did. There was even a 45-minute stint in a canoe at Zilker in between trips to boot. We were probably out there for 4 hours, and I estimate we went anywhere from 16-20 miles on the bike altogether. Some of the spots were quite muddy, and it was still pretty hot, though most of the trip was shady on the trail. A few bugs were eaten, as there were several spots on the trail where the tiny fellers kinda swarming around. I told D it's like we were land-whales, filtering plankton and other micro-fauna. I felt good, but I certainly didn't look too pretty was it was all over.

A shower and a nap later, the day was capped off with a dip in the M's parents' awesome lighted pool that evening along with TR.

I'm pretty darn sore and a bit wobbly today, have a small and somewhat mysterious cut, and a little bit of pinkness in a couple places from the sun, but I do feel a sense of accomplishment. Totally worth doing again.

What a difference a day makes

I had a lovely weekend. We saw the Tom Waits Peep Show by the Broken Clock Cabaret on Friday evening. We had a lovely housewarming/birthday party on Saturday, complete with feta bacon burgers AND dinosaur cake! And we had another nice small gathering Sunday with some of stef-is-supr's out of town friends where we dined on leftovers. Yum!

I ridiculously stuffed myself with food all weekend. Thankfully this evening we are erecting (tee-hee!) the badminton net and holding our first match at the new house.

Roller Derby!

Just got home from watching a TX Rollergirls bout. The Hotrod Honeys won! Shout out! Also, I'd like to give a shout out to Stef is Super for joining us at the derby and kudos on her spankin' hot new tattoo! I'm actually quite jealous.

Okay, I'm fulla Lonestar...ugh. Gonna go to bed.

whup whup

We watched the Oscars last night. Yes, the show was too long, yes, Ellen was funny, and yes, poor Jennifer Hudson peaked way too early. But, we had great company, great food, and great weather.

In our Guess the Winner contest we had ties: two folks both guessed the most correct category winners, and two folks had the same number of wrong answers. Unfortunately, I only had one prize and one booby prize. (Ooops!) Everyone was kinda blah about the movies of 2006...and rightly so. It was a boring movie year. Here's to hopin' '07 will be better.

Big shout-out to Booklahver --- we missed you, babe!

I heart Emerson.

When it rains, it pours

I've been home all day with flu. I left work early yesterday because I felt like crap. To make a bad situation worse, Emerson collapsed suddenly yesterday when I was unlocking the front door to go in. The vet tried to save him, but he didn't make it. I'm still in shock.

Baby G had Emerson as a pet since he was a tiny kitten. He was the only one in his litter to crawl into her lap and take a nap, so it was love at first sight, ya know?

come with me and you'll see a world of pure imagination

Happy birthday to Gentle Reader Nan! (better late than never, eh?)

Lovely Nan had us over for yummies and Trivial Pursuit at her new apt this evening. It was so much fun. (It was also nice to get out of the house after about 48 hrs of being sick as a dog.) I think I ate all of the olives... it was just good to be able to taste food again.

IN OTHER NEWS:
The Pentagon today decided to take a HUGE step BACKWARDS and declare that gays in the military suffer from a "mental disorder". Wow...and while we're at it, the sun revolves around the earth... Geez, Pentagon, why don't you wake up? It's 2006. The pschyological community determined over 30 yrs ago that being gay was not a disorder, that people were born that way. Like, duh!

Pentagon=fucktards.

Shout Shout Let it All Out

Woke up this morning with a nasty little headache, most likely due to all the Project Runway Juice I drank last night. Hey, Project Runway Night only happens once a week, can't a robot indulge?

It was quite lovely -- Baby G grilled kabobs and Mel-a-rific concocted a deliciously sinful advocado and salsa dip for the bag of zoxcheetle (as I like to pronouce it) chips we scored earlier. Yum! I really don't remember the episode too well, except that a sassy Pam Grier-inspired outfit won. Heidi, of course, annoyed the crap out of me with her prissy accent.

In other news: Congrats to St. Gorton! He was recently accepted into graduate school. He's very intelligent for a fisherman and purveyor of fine fish products, but I hope he doesn't rest on his laurels for too long; grad school is no picnic. Seeing as how he'll be extra busy with his studies, the dearth of posts on his blog will probably continue. 'Tis unfortunate, but necessary to be sure.

Happy Anniversary to Us

Today, Hermes Neuticles is one year old! We've also just passed the 9,000 hit mark (as in, 9,000 unique users, not refreshes). Thanks to all our Gentle Readers (and not-so-Gentle Readers) for your support and love, and most of all, your comments.

Here's to another year of ranting and raving, comic relief, and dorkass colleague reports. Good times.

Confessions on a Dirty Carpet

Dog Mania. Pals D&M have adopted two cute pups and have started a new blog, The Dogblog Experiment, to document their 'bringing up baby'. Em has also adopted a four-legged friend, Moose. Congrats, new dog-owners. Have fun buying new underwear and shoes every week! [wink!] Seriously, I know you will enjoy the new creatures in your life and all the love you'll get from them.

In other small-creature news: Daxie FINALLY 'discovered' the kitty bed I bought him and sat in it instead of a shoebox. It only took 3 months. That's my baby -- the dim little fella sittin' in a shoebox. He apparently likes the bed so much, he took a nap in it. Pics to come.

What's in a name? Apparently, everything. The Bushies are trying to figure out what to call those crazy folks in Iraq who keep blowing things up. According to Rumsfeld, insurgent isn't the right term anymore. You know, if the Administration would spend the amount of time they spend on naming problems actually fixing them, we'd have been out of Iraq months ago. I'm just sayin'.
