Everyday I write the book

I've been around, just not posting lately. Sorry, Gentle Readers. It's nothing personal, I've just been caught up in various things and haven't had time to commit here. It is the Summer Doldrums, however, so I don't feel too terrible about taking a break. I'll be back soon.

I can't wait for the weekend to begin

  • Michael Gray's "The Weekend" is still in heavy rotation here. It's so damned catchy! Yes, it's a Monday-wish-it-was-Friday kinda week. (I leave for a campout Friday...)
  • Check out this silkscreening tutorial from no media kings.
  • Stef is blogging again, hence her move from "dead and neglected blogs" to "the others." Check her out! (And we'll very slyly mention here we'd love to see a reciprocal link to HN on her site...)
  • The FLDS wackiness is still playing out. The children of the group have been separated from their mothers due to the investigation into physical and sexual abuse. I feel really bad for those kids, born into that bizzaro world of sequestered life, especially all the young girls that were forced to marry much older men (WTF?!). Look, I'm all for religious freedom, okay? Wear your hair in a funny way, dress your kids like little farmers, have multiple wives/husbands, whatever---just don't abuse kids or women or animals! When your religion gets into centralized patriarchal power mode, with male power, pleasure, and dominance at the core of all things, then you've got a big mess on your hands. That shit never ends well. Hello...Davidian Branch or Jim Jones, etc, anyone?

Goodbye, Crotchfish, we hardly knew ye

Wow --- I'm going to miss that blog. Well, I should just be honest and say I'll miss the schadenfreude. (Yep, I'm an asshole.)

Since only "team members" can post comments there, I am posting mine here:

Crotchfish was an unusual but well-written and satisfying blog. Not only did we learn about high school knowledge bowls, but we were also kept abreast of the latest civil rights infringements in our country. The real meat of the matter, so to speak, were the posts regarding The Ned and what a zoo that place was/is.

Confidential to Fer: I wish you grace, peace, and patience. Your brains, wit and handsome face have gotten you this far, I have a feeling we've not heard the last of you yet.

Tree Brains

If you're like me, you read Steve Don't Eat It and laugh your ass off. Well, the day has come when the aforementioned Steve has eaten the Brain Tree that's been growing on a stump in his yard annual for a few years. The verdict? He liked it!

A Shout-out

Hey kids! We got a shout-out from Salem Press via their blogroll! (Scroll down to "H.") They call HN "twisted." Awesome!

Shout Shout Let it All Out

Woke up this morning with a nasty little headache, most likely due to all the Project Runway Juice I drank last night. Hey, Project Runway Night only happens once a week, can't a robot indulge?

It was quite lovely -- Baby G grilled kabobs and Mel-a-rific concocted a deliciously sinful advocado and salsa dip for the bag of zoxcheetle (as I like to pronouce it) chips we scored earlier. Yum! I really don't remember the episode too well, except that a sassy Pam Grier-inspired outfit won. Heidi, of course, annoyed the crap out of me with her prissy accent.

In other news: Congrats to St. Gorton! He was recently accepted into graduate school. He's very intelligent for a fisherman and purveyor of fine fish products, but I hope he doesn't rest on his laurels for too long; grad school is no picnic. Seeing as how he'll be extra busy with his studies, the dearth of posts on his blog will probably continue. 'Tis unfortunate, but necessary to be sure.

Happy Anniversary to Us

Today, Hermes Neuticles is one year old! We've also just passed the 9,000 hit mark (as in, 9,000 unique users, not refreshes). Thanks to all our Gentle Readers (and not-so-Gentle Readers) for your support and love, and most of all, your comments.

Here's to another year of ranting and raving, comic relief, and dorkass colleague reports. Good times.
