John McCain's ties to Domestic Terrorism

Via Feministing:

"With all the vicious, racist attacks on Obama as of late and the McCain campaign's desperate attempts to tie him with terrorism, we have found that McCain is the one who has connections with domestic terrorists. Not only does he have a relationship with former extreme anti-choice activist Paul Schenck, but has overwhelmingly voted against bills that would protect abortion clinics from anti-choice terrorists. Sarah's got no experience!

Watch her not answer any questions directly. It's enlightening (and frightening!) how little experience she has.

So...we can do it, but they can't?

You've probably heard this week that Russia has invaded its neighbor, Georgia. Of course, Dubya and Condi are making statements here, there, and everywhere that Russia can't just go barreling into a sovereign country and start shooting.

But of course it was okay when the Bush Administration decided to send U.S. troops into the sovereign country of Iraq five years ago...

Geez.

Late June Tidbits

30

As a 1930s wife, I am Poor

Take the test!

George Carlin has passed away. I've been watching clips of his comedy routines on YouTube and trying not to laugh too loudly at work.

Overly self-righteous dude, James Dobson, is telling anyone who'll listen that Barak Obama is "distorting the Bible." Whatever. I don't see Dobson following the Bible letter for letter. If he was, he'd be sacrificing goats and have a long beard, as well as stoning adulterers and thieves, just as the Bible directs.

UPDATE: Obama to Dobson: Shut up.

Holy Fuck, Walnuts!

Exactly where does John McCain stand on various issues? No one knows -- he gives opposing answers to different people on the same questions. Watch and learn:

A Series of Odd Events

  • The animals running the Burmese government aren't giving cyclone victims the food that has been donated by various other countries. Instead, the victims are getting moldy biscuits and old rice to eat. It is believed that the good stuff is being horded in military warehouses. What a bunch of jerks! (That's me, being diplomatic.)
  • "Chubby" gays need love too. Now they have their own dating site. Interesting choice of words, I say. (Oh, and if you're at work, or if you value your own eyesight, you probably don't want to click on that link!!)
  • You think Senator Obama's ex-pastor is nuts? Just listen to John McCain's pastor -- he's a certifiable whack-job. He actually says, "We get off on warfare" in the video. True, yes, but still frightening to see this crazy guys' message endorsed by a former POW. That's not odd at all, McCain! Geez!
  • Einstein's views on god are explained in a recently discovered letter he wrote. Interesting how the American news media hasn't covered this at all...

Ellen calls Sally Kern! Sort of.

How much more hypocracy and self-loathing can Republicans display?

Lots, apparently. Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kerns recently made some extreme anti-gay statements and, as usual, it turns out she's got some "gay" skeletons of her own in the closet. No, she wasn't spotted at the LPGA. These skeletons are actually someone else's. Namely, her fabulously queer son, Jesse! Whom, of course, she and her fellow Baptist husband have disowned. (Soooo Christian and loving of her.)

Oh, and Larry Craig is still making me laff!

Would you like a side of fries with your Fear burger?

Dubya is pressuring the House to pass the continuation of his warrantless wiretapping legislation. The Senate bent over for him easily already, passing their version on Tuesday. Get this: Obama was against, Hillary was absent and McCain voted for it. Oh, and this time, retroactive immunity will be given to all telephone carriers who punked out and gave the government the call records of American citizens previously. So we can't sue them if they rat out our calls to Big Brother if Big Brother says he wants to know.

Here's a little background:

Laments Dubya,

"We need the co-operation of telecommunications companies," he said. "If these companies are subjected to lawsuits costing billions of dollars, they won't participate, they won't help us."
Um, it's called a WARRANT. What's so hard about getting one? Oh yeah, you have to have a reason, not just free reign over the privacy of American citizens. Remember that wacky ol' thing called The Constitution? Well, it's tired of you and your administration shitting all over it, Mr. President. (And quite frankly, I'm tired of the Democratic majority on Congress not doing a damned thing to stop him and his thugs.)

Loves Jesus AND Lying!

A recent study shows Dubya made 935 false statements before the Iraq invasion. Big surprise.

Texas Legislature: A Voting Free-for-all

Have you seen this shit?

The most retarded thing ever (besides Paris Hilton's wanting to spawn)

A British teacher has been convicted of "religious hatred" in the Sudan because she apparently let her students name a teddy bear Mohammed. Yes, you heard me right. She goes to jail for 2 weeks because she allowed a toy to be named Mohammed, but get this --- any Tom, Dick or Harry Islamist-Dude can name HIMSELF after the prophet, but if a woman names a bear "Mo", well, throw her in jail, then deport her!

Geez. And you wonder why organized religion is waning in popularity and meaning...

I'll also have you note the Sudan is the same country where genocide has been happening for the past few years and yet, the powers that be there have time to have a trial and then throw a teacher in jail because of a teddy bear's name. Wow. Talk about your fucked up priorities!

Women get the short end of the stick once again in the Catholic Church

To pay the millions of dollars for out-of-court settlements resulting from the actions of predatory priests, Catholic nuns are being evicted from their homes so that the Church can sell the buildings to raise the money needed.

Wow. Where do I even begin with how fucked up that is?

I know a lot of Catholics who are good decent people but I see this latest development as just one more reason to question the Church's relevancy. Maybe if the Pope gave up wearing Gucci and Prada, an old nun could stay in her home. These women did dedicate their lives to serving God after all...guess that doesn't matter if you're not a man.

Craig -- one of the authors of DADT

Turns out Larry Craig, congressman and hypocrite (is that redundant?), helped to enact the military policy of don't ask, don't tell. So, he thinks can keep his job if he's gay* [but won't admit it], but men and women who put their lives on the line defending our country cannot? Wow. It's obvious Craig is full of self-loathing, but I didn't know he extended that loathing to the very people who keep us safe. [via Slate]**

If this was an ideal world, people like Craig wouldn't be imbued with a hatred for people who are different, and by extension, himself. In an ideal world, Craig would come out and be proud of who he is instead of sneaking around airport men's rooms for sex and then enacting laws that marginalize and discriminate against normal gays and lesbian citizens in society.

*Not that I advocate firing anyone based on sexual orientation! I don't think Craig should resign. I think he just needs to own up to what he did and who he really is and stop legislating hate and prejudice. There are out gay Congresspeople who don't lurk in public bathrooms, soliciting sex from strangers.

**For the record, I don't usually agree with Slate writer Saletan.

UPDATE: Larry Craig has resigned.

UPDATE 2: Oh, no wait...Craig is not resigning. Or, at least, he's trying not to. Apparently he still wants to push his Nuke A Gay Whale for Christ bill before leaving the Senate. Or at least hit up all the men's rooms in the greater DC area first while people still give a shit what he does.

A Gentlemen's Club

Maybe our Ol' Pal Ted, Senator Larry Craig of Idaho, and all those other "NOT GAY" Republicans--which would include closeted, yet to be caught, and possibly paying off people when they've been caught Republicans--should all start the Not Gay Republicans Club. I think they would all be good friends.

Our 'old pal' Ted

Well, according to the folks at Slate, Ted Haggard is up to no good once again. This time it's not meth and man ass, it's money.

Giant Eye-roll of the Day

Michael Vick, dog fighter and dog murderer, has, in his own words, found Jesus. Well, that just makes everything all better, doesn't it?

Friday, August 03, 2007

Oh, Bob...

So not only is Bob Allen upset he got caught offering to pay for sex in a public restroom, but now we find out he's also a racist. Nice. Florida really knows how to pick 'em, don't they?

An admission of wrongdoing?

Well, sort of. Cheney admits that saying the Iraqi insurgency was in its "last throes" may not have been all that true. Hmmm...well, this is a start, right?

Another Classy Republican for Christ

A Florida state representative was caught by an undercover cop in a public bathroom for offering to suck the cop's nightstick for $20. No, not that nightstick, the other one.
