Is your Asshole Green?

If so, you gotta call him or her on it.

I admit to watching some of the "Live Earth" concert on Saturday. Of course, I watched it on my electricity-guzzling television while sitting under a lamp that did not sport a compact fluorescent bulb. (Gasp!)

Did I feel guilty? Not enough to buy a $25 pencil set.

Ironic? Maybe just a little. (Um, NBC, the network that broadcast the concerts is owned by GE, a not-so-environmentally friendly company.)

I always have to laugh when I see celebrities, especially musicians, telling me to "go green" or "save the planet" or whatever while they sip their $300.00 martinis in the comfort of their million-dollar homes. Politicians are worse. Fuck you, Al Gore. I know people love you and your movie. Recycling is great. Driving a hybrid is great. Your hypocrisy? Not so great. I don't have anything against Gore personally, but the man owns tons of stock in oil and he likes to leave the lights on. All the lights.

Anyhoo, I'm really ranting because now that "green" is hip, it's become a consumerist nightmare. Really, are people so dumb that they need designer grocery bags? Wait, don't answer that.

Being green is actually pretty simple. Recycle what you can, don't buy products with a lot of packaging, don't drive when you can walk, don't leave the lights/tv/radio/computer on when you're not using them. Don't take 30 minute showers. Use a push lawnmower, not a gas or electric-powered one. Buy used furniture. Etc... See? No mass amounts of money required. No souls sold.

Now if only the Administration would do their part... I'm not holding my breath.

Finally finished

Whew! We spent all day yesterday cleaning the old place, even steam-cleaning the carpets*. The only thing we have left to get is the lawnmower and the rake. Then we're outta there!

We're settling in quite nicely into the new house. Sure, there's a ton of boxes in the garage to be unpacked, but the kitchen is mostly set up and we have cable now. (Thank the gods! I was going through withdrawal!)

Oh, and May is the 2-year anniversary of HN! Congrats to us!

*It's required in our lease. Otherwise, I would have let that ancient shitty carpet go with a good vacuuming instead.

I gotta agree

I am disappointed that Congress caved and sent the Dubster a no-strings attached bill for funding the Iraq war. Back in November, I thought things would actually start changing, but somehow the Dems we elected have forgotten why we voted for them --- to get us the hell outta Iraq! Who cares what El Prez will or won't sign! He's the one who got us into this mess and he's got a ridiculously LOW approval rating. If you ask me, that means no one likes him or his policies. For pete's sake, Congress, grow some fucking balls and start turning the ship around! I am talking to you, Nancy Pelosi --- where's The End of this war? I don't want to wait until 2008. I'm tired of the lies, the backsliding, the wishy-washiness, the crap. Where the hell did my democracy go?!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Well the move went fairly well. Nothing broke. No one got hurt. I'm so tired I'm running on autopilot. I still don't know how I drove the 25 miles to work this morning, but I got here, so who cares, right? The new digs are shaping up nicely; unfortunately, the old digs still need to be cleaned and all the remainders of our belongings need to be hauled out (some clothes, a few kitchen items, and the lawnmower).

I want to send a huge shout-out to Steven, Mary, CJ, John and Doug for helping us out. We could have done it without you, but honestly, we'd still be loading that damn truck 2 days later. So, thank you thank you thank you!

Zonked

Baby G and I spent the weekend running errands and getting ready to move. This morning I am exhausted. School's out so the library is actually quiet.

Daxie has been extra neurotic lately, most likely due to all the new boxes in "his" house. He really didn't like it when I took down all the picture frames. He pouted for two days! He's been stress-eating too. His bowl o' food gets wolfed down the minute I fill it. Of course the incidence of kitty puke has risen. No biggie; I have to steam clean that disgusting carpet before we turn in our keys anyway.
