I was here (I wish I was still there...)

Hey-O Campers!

We're off to freeze our lil' tookases this weekend! It's gonna be great! Technically we'll only be cold at night; the daytime temps will be in the 80s. Those low 40s at night, though...man! I'll double up on socks and beer to stave off the chills. Gentle Readers, enjoy your weekend!

Ah, Nature

I'm back from camping. It was great --- nice weather, tasty food, good conversation. We hiked 8 miles, saw some waterfalls, and took in the country air. Raccoons ruined my milk (little bastards broke into the cooler in the middle of the night!) and a I got a few mosquito bites, but I'm no worse for the wear. It's really hard to be back in el officina today. It's hot and humid outside and I'm drowsy. I didn't see any bunnies, but I did see 2 gorgeous deer and a few turkey vultures.

Tired

The party Saturday went very well, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and we received many lovely gifts. Sunday we didn't do much, except sleep and watch tv. Needless to say, I'm really tired this week. The shootings at VT brought gloom to fatigue.

This coming weekend I plan to get some RnR and sunshine, as we are heading West to go camping. The tent has actually been set up in the yard since Saturday and we've used it as an outdoor living room until yesterday, when it rained. Now we have a soggy tent. Hopefully it will dry out in today's forecasted 80 degree weather. It has to be rolled up tomorrow night for the trip.

Baby G, Stef-is-super, and I are taking the plunge tonight and co-signing a lease on a lovely property. Soon we'll be living one neighborhood over from D&M of dogblog fame and about 10 miles north of the Booklahver. Small world, eh? Fabulous!

Post-Camping Madness

One of the things a few of us did while camping was become non-stop jukeboxes of badly sung and mostly '80s tunes. Yes kids, even when among beautiful natural scenery, we take our pop culture with us. Sad, but true-oo...yes, no? Post-camping trip, a fellow camper and crooner sent me this, Album Cover Apocalypse, and lately I can't stop watching it. Before you push play at your cubicles, please note the note, "Contains violence and intermittent nudity," although in my opinion, it's relatively mild. Still, you might want to headphone it, or turn the volume down, and turn the screen away from your supervisor. Unless you're lucky enough to work in a place where that kind of stuff doesn't matter. Rok on.

Here are a few pictures from the trip. Enjoy.

Washed clean by Mother Nature

I spent a wonderful weekend in mud and rain with my pals hiking a small mountain, eating sausages and drinking beer, and sleeping in a slightly drippy tent. (Turns out that waterproofing claim is only good for the first 10 minutes of any rain and/or water application of any kind.) The only annoyance was the humidity. Mostly I soaked in the beauty of the place, the verdant hills, the two graceful deer that strode through camp, and the comraderie around the fire. I'll post pictures later.

Today is fall break so campus is pretty dead. It's also still raining so things are quite gray and dark, perfect for napping. Alas, work calls. Someone brought banana nut bread, so the morning hasn't been that bad. Oh, and I'm working with new books today of the shiny non-stinky variety. Woot!

Camping time is here

I will soon be off to the middle of nowhere to indulge in some nature-y RnR and eat sausages and drink PBR under the half-moonlight. Bliss!

I'm really ready to get outta here... I've been hunting down replacements for flood damaged books this morning. To do that I have to handle said books. These books are not only warped and stained, but they leave a not-so-nice feeling on your hands and they smell bad. Like homeless-guy-pee bad. Blech.

Have a lovely weekend, Gentle Readers.

Whopper!

Baby G and I set up our new tent last night. We tried setting it up in the living room but it was too big and we had to move it outside. After struggling with the damn thing for about 20 minutes, we finally got the monster to stand up. I even hung the little "gear loft" from the top of the tent.

Let's just say this: the tent is big enough to hold an old fashioned revival. In fact, I might just corral some woodland creatures from the trail and charge admission so I can save their sinful garbage bin-looting souls. YeeHaw!

Yay! Camping!

Last night at the Tar-zhay I scored a 6-person tent on sale for $32! (Last week it was only on sale for $45. I'm so glad I waited to buy it.) We're going camping in October and now I won't have to sleep out where the raccoons can lick my toes.

Chimeras! or, How much more can we wear out these jokes?

Hey! Lookit dis lil' bagga donuts.

Um, I also really enjoyed learning about Clivus' wonderful invention, and Lorraine Bracco's shower habits. Hmm, these things are sorta thematically linked. I wonder if...Ms. Bracco and Mr. Multrum are in fact the same person! You know what would've made those bathrooms better?!? a CHANDELIER!!

Mr. Multrum, how many poops does it take to get to the composting center of the composting plant? Let's find out: a one--a two--a three. A three. How many poops does it take? The world may never know.

Giddy with Texas Love

Left: Baby G climbs a waterfall.

Hola, Gentle Readers!
I am back from my camping trip to Texas with Baby G, Booklahver, D&M, and Mel-a-rific amongst others. We hiked 5 miles, swam in the Colorado, ate too much bacon (is there such at thing?) and slept peacefully while goats carried off bags of bread and cookies from our campsite. The weather was gorgeous and I got to see all my pals for the first time in a long time. My hair still smells like campfire, but that's okay...I was in the beautiful Hill Country for 3 days --- what more could I ask for?

All is [mostly] well

1) My trip went well. Very well. Let's just say I smiled so much yesterday, my face ached. I'm worn out, but it's okay. The people were great, the facilities were schweet, and there is a window in the office, people! A window! With a view! "That window alone's worth gettin' married fowah..." Yeah, you didn't get that last part because you're not a sap who watches Steel Magnolias on occasion like I do. (Pretend you just didn't read that.)

Eh-hem. Moving on...

2) Things here at El Biblioteca Del Diablo (I have no idea if that's even close to Spanish, so forgive me!) are still F.U.B.B. (that's fucked up beyond belief for you newbies). The provost is in a tizzy, the rest of the faculty is in a tizzy, and the library has ended up looking like a big whiny baby. Great. The student newsrag even ran a story on the situation. Gee, if the response to this breaking news is anything like the last (Remember the protests & angry mobs? Me neither.) the situation should be remedied by, oh, probably two thousand never. Eh. C'est la vie. (Why so calm? See #1.)

3) I'm going camping tomorrow, gettin' the hell outta Dodge. You know, to reconnect with Mother Nature, take peyote, and melt marshmallows over an open fire. Good times. Oh, and I was just kidding about the peyote. I might have to pee in a cup soon. T.M.I. Yeah, sorry, but it's the truth. Happy Earth Day.

4) Got a new license plate. It put me out $9.25 and 45 minutes of leave from work. Oy. It is inside my back window, presumably safe from thieves. This ghetto town is really grating my last nerve.
