No Midwives in MO?
Apparently it's a felony for a midwife to assist in a birth in Missouri. WTF?

Thankful, it's not a felony as of June 24... The Missouri Supreme Court reversed a lower court's injunction against a law passed to allow midwives to practice legally. Thank goodness for the justice system!
That story was really good. I like the contrast between the three different kinds of birthing experiences (even though she didn't go with Dr. Wheeler). Texas also does not allow midwife attended hospital births (where the midwife attends exclusively instead of the doctor) but if you want a hospital birth with a midwife feel, you might want to hire a doula. And find a doctor who's down with a doula.
My main reason for no hospital: interventions like epidurals and episeotomies. I also like the idea of knowing all the laides who will be coming in to check on me and the fact that you aren't strapped down to anything. I can totally see myself laboring in a squatting/kneeling position on the floor of the shower :) or in the tub. But only the type of labor will be the indicator for how I manage pain.
Thanks for sharing!
A step forward??
