Punxsutawney Phil Stifles Spring

Yep, it's Groundhog Day. Apparently Phil saw his shadow --- so we're stuck with 6 more weeks of what has been a weirdly warm winter.

Cindy Sheehan, who was arrested at Tuesday's State o' the Union address for wearing a t-shirt that had the number of soldier deaths in Iraq printed on it, has been formally apologized to by the Capitol Police. They have dropped all charges. Wow. It's oddly "official" now--we now live in a country where you can't question the president without getting arrested. Sure, this kind of thing has happened on many occasions to many different folks, but Ms. Sheehan sacrificed her son for her country all because of Dubya's faulty intelligence. Are you telling me the woman can't wear a t-shirt of her choosing to a public forum? These are dark times, people. If I don't post tomorrow, you know the Bushies got me locked up somewhere.

Moving on: Saw Match Point last night. Very dark but quite watchable...don't wait for a matinee, go tonight!

I'm hoping that Baby Guanaco will grace us with a movie review --- she's much more articulate about its faults and twists than me. I need to let it simmer a bit before I dismantle it. I will say this, even though the story was set in London, I did see many symbolic parallels to current American socio-political culture.

Mrs Sheehan's account of her SOTU experience:

She neglected to take off her jacket in one of the "protest zones" designated for the event; I believe there was a perfectly good zone in nearby West Virginia

Thanks, Fer.

Here's another place where her account is posted.

I hope the current Powers That Be realize that forcibly silencing the people of this country who disagree with them is only going to lead to a very loud collective voice of rejection for them and their policies.

The small part of my heart that still breathes optimism has hope that November '06 will bring forth a refreshing change in our government.

Dude...did you see the shots of Hillary? It was awesome.

She was trying to keep a straight face but ended up slightly shaking her head as if to say, "What a bunch of shit..." everytime the camera came her way.

Neat. Go Hillary! Woooo!

The funniest thing about the t-shirt incident, I think, is that they also asked a congressman's wife to leave because she was wearing a "support the troops" t-shirt. I guess it's good that they were equally zealous on ejecting message t-shirts.

I hear Dubya doesn't like clothing with words on it --- he has trouble enough speaking in public, but he'll be damned if he has to read, too!

I found out that Cindy Sheehan is good pals with Hugo Chavez... Hmmm...

I don't fancy the Bush Administration one bit, but Chavez is known for stifling free speech and committing election fraud as well. Sound like anyone we know??
