Project Kookaburra
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
Merry merry king of the bush is he,
Laugh, Kookaburra, Laugh, Kookaburra
Gay your life must be.
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
Eating all the gumdrops he can see,
Stop, Kookaburra, Stop, Kookaburra
Leave some there for me.
I used to sing that song around the campfire as a young [Robot] Scout. I never trusted that Kookaburra (were he real) would leave any gumdrops for me mainly because I wouldn't leave any for him were I in his place. (A Gumdrop Tree?! Hello?! Awesome!)
Anyway, why am I posting about a silly song? Mostly because I don't want to comment on last night's State of the Union address, the Alito confirmation, high energy prices, or how frustrated I am with the world. I fear I am on the slippery slope to nihilism and want desperately to hold onto something "warm and fuzzy", hence the childhood song.

I'm warm and fuzzy, hold me?
My mom used to sing that song but I don't know if she knew the whole thing. In any event, the part that drifted down to me was just the first line. And Kookaburra's do exist. They're birdies (google image search kookaburra). The verdict is still out on the gumdrop tree.

Yes, they are part of the Kingfisher family and when they call, they sound like they're laughing--hence the song, I guess.
Don't be dissin' on my gumdrop tree --- it's my "happy place" for today's escapist moments.
