It begins

I start my semester class today. It's a film class so hopefully we'll get to watch a lot of movies and analyze them in a socio-political context. And eat popcorn. I took a couple film courses as an undergrad and am hoping that those memories will come quick. I think I still have that textbook somewhere... I also have my new textbook which I scored at the bargain basement price of $50. It's a hefty yet floppy 1,120 page paperback. A joy to tote and read. Big fun every Monday, baby!

I was going to take a cake decorating class this semester, too, but since no one else signed up for it it got canceled. Poo. I'm keen to learn how to ice cakes with fondant. Guess I'll have to muck up my own kitchen now to find out. Booklahver, if your wedding weren't so far away (geographically speaking) I'd totally make you and D a lovely cake for your reception. What? Sure, you can hide it behind the real cake. I don't mind. And yes, I'll still get you a real gift...

Special shout-out to my twin for the weekend, Ackkapoo. The secret of our magical twinhood? Different mothers. Huzzah! Those nerds still don't know what hit them at that party. Let's just say it's probably the first time that house (with all its kitten poster glory) has seen the likes of us, my friend. Nor will it ever again.

You can still make me a cake but fondant gives me nightmares. I wake up screaming and sweating heavily because in the dream it smothers me in a perfectly still yet suffocating fashion. Whiteness, everywhere!!

Old-fashioned buttercream it is, then! I don't want any of my culinary creations to spook. Unless it's Halloween, of course.

glad you used that wikipedia link for fondant . . .

I wish I had taken that film class at state; ah regrets.

That class was great --- Bob Arnett was, and remains, one of my favorite teachers.
