Turning the Ship 3/4 Inch
Things are a' brewin' as they say. Congressional support for parts of the USA Patriot Act may be losing ground. The House of Reps just voted against continuing to allow the FBI to seize library and bookstore records without a warrant. Whah? Really?! Ohhh...I bet there's steam coming out of lil Georgie's ears. It's about time this silly and invasive provision was revisited and removed. If things continue to go well, perhaps librarians can quit worrying about shredding circulation records and get back to the business of helping steer the Information Age?
The Downing Street Memo is finally actually being discussed in traditional media outlets. I actually heard a substantial interview on NPR's All Things Considered yesterday. Granted, this story won't really explode until some sort of sex or crime angle (besides the crime of killing 100,000+ Iraqis) comes to light. I love my country, but sometimes it seems like a madhouse run by children.

Wasn't it a wonderful way to start the day?!! I woke up to hearing Wagner's Tannhauser and the glorious news that the Patriot Act is losing steam. Hallelujah! I knew it was going to be a great day.
