And then there were four...or five or whatever

Rudy G and John Edwards have both dropped out of the presidential race. Rudy, because he thought he could muster a late-in-the-game win in Florida from all the ex-New Yorkers that retired there, and John, because he just can't beat the cool Obama or the mega-funded but desperate Hillary.

I'm sad that Edwards dropped out, but he wasn't able to get anyone's attention anymore. There were only so many times I could hear that "my dad worked in a mill" story! As for Guilliani, I never cared for him. Now we know all the buzz about him is just that: buzz.

If the election were today? I'd vote for Obama.*

*I'd like to ask that question again sometime soon. I'd also like it if you Gentle Readers would chime in with your answers. I have already changed my mind a number of times and will probably do so again. We've got another 9 months to get through before the election...

I was firmly behind Edwards, with Bill Richardson as my second choice. I will most likely not caucus in Colorado on Super Tuesday because I am having a hard time falling in love with either Clinton or Obama...and of course we all know that come November I will be voting for whoever the Democratic nominee is.

Well, it depends on what you want to get out of your vote. Change is going to happen. The molecules that make up Alfred E Potus will no longer occupy 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue this time next year. I guess that counts as change, so no matter which candidate wins, change will be served.

The DNA of Alfred E Potus, however, will remain in residency. Which of the candidates is against the war? For the Geneva Convention? Bringing executive powers back into balance with those of Congress and the courts? Helping poor people? Helping middle class people? Helping the sick and future sick? Recognizing organized labor? I put it to you that none of them are.

Maybe that's too much to expect from a president, and maybe the polls are just being dishonest when they claim that folks want any of those things -- certainly not badly enough to influence their voting choice. People can overlook a lot if they like the personality of a public figure like the president, and I guess that's what this (and any other modern) election comes down to. Who can you stand to look at on the news every night while the country continues its downward spiral into history's recycling bin?

For that reason (and until Ralph Nader gets back on the ballot), I choose Albert Brooks. No one is more entertaining when seen drowning in his neuroses, and the next president will have ample opportunity to do that. Drown pretty for us, Albert. We're counting on you.

Here's my completely uninformed hierarchy, in a versus fashion:
Obama vs. McCain (toughy but I'll go with Obama)
Clinton vs. McCain (McCain)
Democrat vs. Romney (Democrat)
Democrat vs. Huckabee (Democrat)
**I know Huck's still around but I haven't heard from him in a while**

So, basically it's Obama, McCain, then Democrat. I'm a Barackstar but if Hillary gets the nom, McCain will hopefully get the Republican nom. Hopefully.
