Craig -- one of the authors of DADT
Turns out Larry Craig, congressman and hypocrite (is that redundant?), helped to enact the military policy of don't ask, don't tell. So, he thinks can keep his job if he's gay* [but won't admit it], but men and women who put their lives on the line defending our country cannot? Wow. It's obvious Craig is full of self-loathing, but I didn't know he extended that loathing to the very people who keep us safe. [via Slate]**
If this was an ideal world, people like Craig wouldn't be imbued with a hatred for people who are different, and by extension, himself. In an ideal world, Craig would come out and be proud of who he is instead of sneaking around airport men's rooms for sex and then enacting laws that marginalize and discriminate against normal gays and lesbian citizens in society.
*Not that I advocate firing anyone based on sexual orientation! I don't think Craig should resign. I think he just needs to own up to what he did and who he really is and stop legislating hate and prejudice. There are out gay Congresspeople who don't lurk in public bathrooms, soliciting sex from strangers.
**For the record, I don't usually agree with Slate writer Saletan.
UPDATE 2: Oh, no wait...Craig is not resigning. Or, at least, he's trying not to. Apparently he still wants to push his Nuke A Gay Whale for Christ bill before leaving the Senate. Or at least hit up all the men's rooms in the greater DC area first while people still give a shit what he does.
UPDATE: Larry Craig has resigned.

I think the funniest part of this is that he keeps saying "I'm not gay." Shouldn't you be saying "I didn't do this, I was charged erroneously, I don't know what's going on, where am I?" instead of being on the defensive about being gay?? To me, if you were innocent of the charges (which he has never claimed, another bizarre twist), you would be saying that waaaaay before saying that you didn't swing that way. Idiot.
This isn't the same guy from FL who busted into the bathroom stall and wanted to pay $20?
Nope, totally different guy. He was a state rep.
