Bye Bye Alberto! Don't recall us, we won't recall you.

Alberto "I do not recall" Gonzales is resigning. Yay!

My delete above -- I believe the link will work this time.

As with the punchline to that joke about all the world's lawyers sent to the bottom of the sea, this is a good start.

Speaking of lawyers, the ACLU has an opinion (shocking, but true) regarding today's event: "Alberto Gonzales will follow Mitchell Palmer as one of the worst attorneys general in U.S. history," said Executive Director Anthony Romero.

Wow, worse than Ashcroft or Meese? Talk about the bottom of the sea... it's pretty typical of Cabinet officers to bail during a president's second term, especially after that last midterm election. It's a wonder more of Alfred E. Potus's henchmen have stuck around this long; executive privilege and its advantages is a sweet gig if you can get it.

I think that 9/11 has fatally screwed up what government and its citizens believe should be (or could be) the mission of DOJ, and the intensely partisan politicking by the exectuive branch these last six years hasn't helped, either. I would be surprised to see a president of either party do things much differently, though, except perhaps be a little more subtle. Or perhaps not.
