Head! Out! Now!
According to the latest NYT poll, Americans say they're going to vote against Republicans because they think Dems will bring our troops home sooner. Also according to that poll, Dubbie's approval rating has dropped to 29%. Ouch. I'm glad the rest of America has gotten fed up with the way things are going, but damn, a few seconds longer and we'd probably be stirring shit up in Iran!
While I'm all for fresh faces in Congress, I must admit I remain skeptical about many things, especially how much "change" a new Congress would really enact. I believe the whole Iraq thing will be a mess if we stay or if we leave. I think corruption and pork-barrelling will remain rampant and acceptable in Washington. And I'm not sure if the giant wedge between Reds and Blues in this country can be removed without a lot of bleeding as a result. (Not that said wedge hasn't already let a lot of blood [see: Iraq War, Foley sex scandal, Abramoff scandal, NCLB, South Dakota's backwards abortion law, tax breaks for the megarich, John Kerry cocking things up, Karl Roves' homophobia, the Terri Schiavo mess, rolling back environmental laws, sending John "I hate the UN" Bolton to represent us at the UN, screwing over Katrina victims and NOLA/MS Gulf Coast, Halliburton's war profiteering, prisoner abuse, etc.]).
Whew! That's a lot of things that need fixing. Can a new Congress take on this mountain of mishaps and missteps? I don't know the answer to that. Fortunately for me, I have this ice cream cone. I'm going to eat it. There. That's better.
Oh, wait...
