Go, Garden State!

Speaking of big issues, lookit New Jersey, wow. I hope these people that care about each other as much as their straight counterparts get to legally commit themselves to each other. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Well, here's the decision. Basically, the NJ supreme court thinks that gay people who commit to each other should have all the same rights/obligations as straight people do, but they want to leave it up to the legislature to decide how that's going to be done: either by changing the definition of marriage, or by enacting something parallel like civil unions.

So far, it seems that this is considered to be neither a victory nor a defeat for gay marriage. However, it is good to know that the highest court in one more state among 50 thinks that gay people should have the same rights as straight people.

I'm impressed that the court is so politically savvy. They ruled in such a way that forces the legislatures hand, but does not re-interpret any law and thus can not be labeled as "activist."
